Responding to all donor referrals promptly and appropriately by telephone and/or on-site according to OPO policies and procedures.
Obtaining accurate medical information for evaluation of potential organ donors according to OPO, UNOS, and CDC guidelines
Collaborating with ICU staff, AOC (Administrator on Call), CMO (Chief Medical Officer), and all others team members according to OPO protocols to establish donor management objectives.
Compliance with procedures established by OPOs for completing referrals and disposition of data.
Conducting ongoing assessment and executing appropriate interventions in accordance with OPO donor management protocols to optimize organ function in preparation for allocation.
Collaborating with OPO staff in the allocation of all organs according to OPO standard operating procedures and UNOS allocation policies.
Coordinating the logistical transportation of recovery teams.

They serve as a subject matter expert on the process of organ donation and recovery.
They nurture grieving families while advocating for hospital partners, potential donor, and donor families, as well as transplant recipients.
They obtain authorization for organ donation, complete patient history interviews, and refer donor families to appropriate internal and external resources.
Most importantly, as a guest in partnering hospitals, they understand the value of collaboration in establishing and maintaining healthy relationships with hospital partners.

REFERRAL RESPONSE COORDINATOR
Organ Referral team members have a critical role in the day to day operations of our partnering OPOs. They understand that, as first responders, they are responsible for establishing a healthy rapport with those involved in the care of the patient and family. Conducting chart reviews to determine medical suitability, as well as understanding and maintaining accurate documentation of donor information in the OPO EMR (Electronic Medical Record).
Assessing hemodynamic stability and developing strategies in conjunction with the primary care team to maintain organ function.
Collaborating with Attending Physicians and ancillary hospital staff to develop a plan for OPO involvement when brain death testing is planned and/or family is considering withdrawal of support on eligible DCD candidates.
